Over the next few weeks we’ll be blogging about Isabelle’s new home as she renovates the kitchen!
So what are the first few steps to take before undergoing a large renovation? Well, there are practical matters to attend to as well as the fun part of picking finishes and colours!
Isabelle’s first step was to meet with an engineer and take measurements to make sure that the vision she has for her new kitchen is actually possible. After preparing quick sketches of her ideas, she began to look on Houzz.com for inspiration. She fell in love with this kitchen, design by LDa Architects in Massachusetts.
Since her new home is a 100-year-old character home with a lot of the original charm, Isabelle is looking to marry old and new, in a balance of contemporary eclecticism. She’s going to work with a palette of cool greys, gold metallics and caramels to make sure the original orangey-copper fir floors make sense with the updated design.
After coming up with a budget, and a very detailed and itemized list of what’s needed, Isabelle has begun calling around for quotes. The wood pictured in the inspiration image is elm, which is very rare, so she’s hoping it will fit in the budget! She may have to settle for veneer instead of solid wood in order to get the look she wants.
