It’s early January and most of us are in full-on “NEW” mode. New ideas, new inspiration, new innovations! But in the interior design world, a lot of what’s new is actually older trends re-imagined and re-worked to fit our current lifestyles and taste. Many of the hot items for 2015 that we’re seeing out on the market take a splash of bygone eras and freshen them up. Here are a few of our favourite examples:

The “Anne” chair by Ross Lovegrove. A thoughtful new take on mid-century modern design, this chair has a gorgeous and easily recognizable silhouette. The options of mustard, teal or orange for the seat cushion are definitely reminiscent of 50s and 60s colour palettes, but the chair is also available in more contemporary shades of mocha and charcoal. The “Anne” is available from Bernhardt Design, which has representatives in Toronto.

“Muse” wall sconces from Modern Forms Lighting. This gorgeous design is specifically engineered for LED lighting, which definitely brings it into the here and now. The polished chrome and elongated wooden detail, however, are hallmarks of the art deco movement. An elegant shape with a touch of masculinity, this wall sconce would work in a number of contemporary spaces. “Muse” is available from Y Lighting in California.

“Proud Peacock” from Pillow Decor. Of course, the best way to make the old new again is to combine previous fads into a brand new look. These gorgeous, vibrant, playful pillows from Pillow Decor do just that, marrying 1960s pop themes, a Moroccan colour palette and a touch of folk-art flair. These whimsical little fellows would be easy to incorporate into any style of design, from traditional to casual to modern. Pillows can be ordered directly from the Pillow Decor website.
