Minimalism. KonMari method. Hygge. These are all trendy buzzwords that have been making the rounds in home and lifestyle blogs, magazines and even on TV for the past 2 or 3 years now. Bestsellers on the topics line bookstore shelves, documentaries pop up on Netflix and celebrities shout the lifestyles’ praises. Though each trend seems to have replaced the previous, the message they all convey is inherently the same: less really is more.
Alex Beauchamp explains that hygge is “about being present enough to recognize and acknowledge an act, moment or feeling when the ordinary feels extraordinary.” Marie Kondo explains that her technique is about “sparking joy” and surrounding ourselves only with what makes us happy. Joshua Becker describes his family’s experience with minimalism as truly life changing. He explains, “We discovered more money, more time, more energy, more freedom, less stress, and more opportunity to pursue our greatest passions: faith, family, friends.” In our busy, bustling, overwhelming lives, these concepts seem borderline Heavenly; and the best part is, they are absolutely achievable.
